Appeal funds boosted by £30,000 donation
The rescue of the Big Green Gathering got a huge boost just before the Annual General Meeting when we received a single donation of £30,000.
In his accompanying letter, the donor wrote "I have far to much money and not enough fun. I've been coming to the festival for about 10 years now and a lot of the fun I manage to have is at your festival. I would be mortified if it were to stop."
This wonderful contribution, together with other smaller donations and a £2,500 profit on the first of our benefit concerts, meant that we were more than half way towards our initial target of raising £100,000 by the time of our Annual General Meeting on 24th November. (See funds thermometer)
Having now got through the AGM, we are still in need of donations and share applications from more people who, like our big donor, would be mortified if the BGG had to stop. Although we didn't hit our target before the AGM and have to continue fund-raising into the New Year, we are now confident that the BGG will survive, and we are looking forward to getting all our debts paid off so that we can begin planning events for 2008 and beyond.
We must give a huge and grateful 'thank you' to all those who have contributed so far, but we still need to redouble our efforts in the coming weeks. To move forward, we need to do more than just wipe out our past debts - we need a solid financial platform of operating capital, because that too is necessary for the million-pound-a-year business which the BGG is on the verge of becoming. If we are to succeed, now is the time for all those who love and value the Big Green Gathering to dig deep and put their money in the pot.
